Movement and meditation, practiced together

For more than thirty years, I've practiced moving and sitting as two sides of the same path. When the body is cared for, the mind settles more easily. When the mind is steady, the body moves with more ease and less strain. My classes are a place to explore that connection at your own pace, with support and without pressure to be anywhere other than where you are.
Gentle, steady work on mobility, strength, and balance, the things that let us keep doing what we love as the years go on.
My teacher David Nichtern describes three gifts of meditation: stability, resiliency, and clarity of mind. Over time, practice helps us meet whatever life brings with a little more patience and a little more room to breathe.
When we slow down enough to pay attention, we often find that much of what we're looking for is already here. The practice is a way of returning to that, again and again.
Anyone who senses there's more to movement than exercise, and more to meditation than sitting still. Some students come with years of practice, many with none. Some are recovering from injury or looking to stay mobile as they age. Others are simply carrying a lot and looking for a place to set it down for an hour. All of that is welcome here.

Join me Tuesday nights, November 3 through January 5, for Vinyasa Yoga for Lifelong Mobility, along with a 10-week Sunday morning meditation series beginning November 8.

My practice began in a martial arts school in Media, Pennsylvania, when I was a boy, and it has been part of my life ever since.
Over the years it led me to yoga, to fourteen years co-owning Enso Yoga & Meditation Studio, to teacher training with Jack Kornfield and Tara Brach, and to study with David Nichtern at Tibet House.
I'm also a practicing attorney, and I know firsthand how much a full and demanding life asks of us. The practice has given me a great deal. It's a privilege to share it.
If you have a question about a class, a private session, or simply whether this practice might be right for you, I'm glad to talk.
